Please note: The Shelly LoRa Add-On operates in pairs to exchange data. To create a functional LoRa setup, each project will require at least two LoRa modules; one to transmit and one to receive.

The Shelly LoRa Add-On is an affordable expansion module designed for compatible Gen3 and Gen4 Shelly devices, such as the Plus 1 Gen3 or Plus 1PM Gen3. Using the LoRa (Long Range) communication protocol, these add-ons enable data transmission over extended distances. Unlike LoRaWAN, which depends on external infrastructure like cell towers or dedicated gateways, Shelly’s LoRa Add-On can communicate directly without any additional network equipment.

With a maximum range of up to 5 km, it’s ideal for expanding Shelly networks in urban automation scenarios, for example, coordinating traffic lights that adapt to time-of-day or weather conditions. It’s equally effective for long-distance IoT connectivity on farms, between multiple buildings, or across large campuses.

Beyond long-range communication, the LoRa Add-On enhances signal penetration through challenging materials such as concrete and metal, improving wireless reliability inside buildings. Installation is simple, requiring only that the module be attached to a compatible Shelly device.
