This type of garage door normally has rollers running vertically on the door posts and large spring across the top of the door.
When fully open, the door does not retract all the way in to the garage but leaves a section creating a canopy in front of the garage.
These doors do not have horizontal runners into the garage.

In this case, another way to distinguish between Canopy and Retractable type doors is to identify the placement of the door’s springs. If the spring is above the door, it is a canopy type door. If the springs are beside the door, it is a retractable type door.
